Manyons - Large Georgian garden

By Cambridge garden designer Paul Dracott. A Georgian house is set in large rural plot; the design was to integrate the new stone Orangery extension.

Interior design was strongly influenced by John Pawson and the garden had to reflect these clean lines whilst remaining in harmony with the location.

The ground pattern was linked to the main entrance of the orangery, creating a vista from the terrace, over the formal pool, into the main body of garden and beyond to open countryside.

The new sandstone terrace provides a visual link between the existing building and the new extension and the turf treads to the steps negotiate the level change without imposing too much hard landscape.

Planting is massed, informal and naturalistic. Using large repeated blocks of Rudbeckia fulgida 'Deamii', Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Firetail', Sedum 'Herbstfreude', Calamagrostis aucutiflora 'Karl Foerster', Pennisetum alopecroides and Molinia caerulea 'Transparent'.
