Rural cottage garden

By Sussex and London based garden designers Julia Fogg and Anny Evason. Building work had ravaged this country cottage garden. We were asked to rejuvenate the soft landscaping and use plants that would form an informal tapestry of texture and colour.

Although the house had an 'old charm' feel we were keen not to follow a traditional pastiche but to bring a contemporary slant to the borders. The client became so enthused with the 'new look' and chose the steel sculpture to compliment the planting.

Crocosmia, Geranium 'Jolly Bee' and Verbena bonariensis weave their way through the border.

Green oak sleepers retain the planted banks. Perovskia 'Blue Spire', Hemerocallis 'Stafford', Nepeta 'Souvenir d'Andre Chaudron' and Deschampsia cespitosa 'Gold Dew' take centre stage in midsummer following on from the impact of Camassia leichtlinii caerulea, Iris germanica 'Blue Shimmer' and 'Kent Pride' earlier in the year.
