The Strawbwerry Tree is often advertised for evergreen hedging.
Does this mean when it reaches the required height, say 2mtrs, it can be clipped or restricted by pruning.
I do not understand how to form this tree into a hedge shrub rather than a specimen tree.
Any help much appreciated.
What should the planting distance be between plants when using for hedging?
Thanks

Is there a reason that you have set your heart on growing this plant as a hedge? It seems such a shame to do this to a plant that has so much to offer as a specimen shrub. Viburnum tinus would be a good alternative, it is evergreen, flowers in winter and has metallic blue berries, it is also denser than the more open Arbutus.

Many thanks for your comments.
Many web sites specialising in hedging seem to include the Strawberry Tree particularly for wet conditions which we have.
I will certainly try viburnum tinus. I will probably try one strawberry tree in the hedging along with photina red robin & viburnam tinus and the other one, that I have, as a specimen tree.
Many thanks for your contribution

Hi Edward, Nicola (owner of this site) here:) I saw your question and am trying something new. What do you think?? I have asked Hedges Direct to write a blog post about hedging plants for wet soils here as a way to help you select the right hedge plant varieties for your conditions. I hope it helps:) Kind regards Nicola
