Please could anyone identify the plant in the attached photos. one photo was taken yesterday and the flowering one ws taken last july. the plant is c10 inches in diameter and the flower was c. 18inches tall. i have little shoots appearing all over my garden and suspect they are related to this plant i was given last year so woulld love to be able to learn a bit more about it. many thanks andy

Looks like the Thistle family, try typing Cirsium into the plant search and you may be able to identify the flower .

I'm wondering if it might Eryngium agavifolium (try googling) need to see the flowers though.
