We planted this climber before going on holiday last week and on our return the shoots appear to have gone very dark and the leaves are shrivelling. We have panted it against a wall with sun in the morning and shade from early afternoon, the plant is in decent but clay soil with compost. Not sure if it just needs water or if it has been affected by the frost?

Hi Bruce,
Without pictures, very difficult to be definitive, but water could be the problem. However, so could frosts, wind, heat or damage to the root or stems. The environment that it was in before you bought it could be quite radically different to the one you've planted it in and it may need time to adjust. Regular watering, perhaps a feed with a high nitrogen feed to promote new leaf growth wouldn't hurt. If you can post pictures it may be more obvious, but that's the best I can do blind.

Oh, one more question. What climber is it?

According to the care instructions here on Shoot for your plant it is H3 (tender in frost) - this may also be a possibility.

Guys thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. Frost definitely has it after last week, all the leaves are black and dying. I think I planted it too early and pretty much straight from a greenhouse purchase-schoolboy error.
