Hi there all
I have a mature Laburnum tree in my garden. It is approx around 20ft high and seems very healthy and happy. The only thing is that in the 13 years I have been in the house it only flowers every other year. In the in between year (which is this one) it still produces healthy green leaves only. I wonder if anyone knows if this is normal for a Laburnum as all the references I find say it should flower yearly?

I believe if they have produced flowers well one year, they do tend to take a break the following year. You might consider giving a dressing of Potash , ensure the plant has plenty of water (?) and ,not so easy, Check for snails in the foliage. If you use a seaweed liquid spray that will help to nourish the tree and probably put the snails( if any ) off

Hi Patricia
Thank you very much for your reply. When it does flower it does put on quite a show, so I imagine you are right about it taking a rest. It's such a healthy tree that I am not worried, however it had just seemed that all the others in my local area flower up every year so I couldn't figure it out! I will give the tree some Potash as you suggest. Snails are always a problem in my garden so the spray may also be a good idea. Thank you for your advice.
