we have planted our acer in an area which can vary from fairly dry to a mud bath. With the torrential rain over the last few days there are puddles of water around the plant. The soil is clay but we have dug it over well so hopefully it's not too compacted. Will it be okay or should we consider moving it and are we okay to do it now?
Thank you

Since you just planted it, can you maybe remove it, mound the soil up a good 9 inches, then go ahead and plant it, also it has been recommended that if you have clay soil to plant trees and shrubs one inch higher than soil level, then cover with compost, this aids the plant in getting some air to the root system.

Hi Elaine
We planted it about 3 weeks ago. I think we may dig it up and put it in a large pot for now. Thanks for the tip about the clay soil and shrubs/trees.
