Getting rid of garlic

Reply from Kathy C

Hi, Karen
Ugh...not an easy one to deal with. The best way to control wild garlic is to make the grass happy and vigorous through proper, regular fertilisation and mowing. Though you won't completely eliminate the garlic, this will make it less noticeable and problematic. You can spot treat with weed killer for lawns but this will probably need repeating quite a bit. And, you will need to seed all the spots where the garlic has died. Usually, hand-pulling is not practical since the leaf blade snaps off easily and the plant will grow back. If you have the time and energy, you can dig them up but be sure you
get all of the bulb, bulblet and root system.

Gardeners Napalm

Reply from Jason Lock

Bite the bullet - if its that bad go for the big guns, assuming you are not an organic gardener!? - use a Glyphosate based total herbicide (usually sold as Roundup) and you should after a period of treatment rid yourself of this problem. Remember though to use these chemicals wisely and always always read the instructions.
