Hi
I'm not exactly new to gardening just completely rubbish at it.
I took some forsythia cuttings from my mom's garden and followed the bbc gardening guide on how to do it to the letter! However, 2 hours later they are wilting and showing signs of rapid death already lol. Did I take them too early? Does anyolne know where I went wrong?
this years growth
6" long
cut just below leaf joint
removed lower leaves
posted in small pot using rooting powder/compost/watered/covered/in green house
looking dead already :(
Thank you
Lesley

Hi Lesley
Don't give up!! You have listed all the right things and deserve to succeed, so try again! I suggest you do it all over again and avoid putting the cuttings in direct sunshine in the greenhouse - I have put cuttings I have taken on the lower shelf in my greenhouse and they seem to be pulling through and I haven't done all that you have (no rooting powder or cover!). The other thing I would add is to take the cuttings in the morning if poss and to prepare and pot them up straight away, firming them in well. And if it fails again, have a go at hardwood cuttings between late autumn to early spring - these can be a little easier. My fingers are crossed for you! Look forward to hearing how you get on. All the best, Marissa

Thank you :)
2 cuttings survived out of about 10. They have tons of really healthy looking roots now!
