Aspect: South, West
My thatched cottage fronts onto the busy village street, but the back garden is sunny, lush and my little piece of paradise. It is full of trees, flowers, fragrant scents and birdsong. Behind the kitchen is a strawberry rockery, lawned seating area shaded in part by the magnolia and mock orange blossom trees and to the right, a brick patio hosts a pergola, grapevine, clematis, honeysuckle, herb garden and tubs full of lavender, geraniums, gladioli and fuschias. A pond (full of lilies and irises) is surrounded by a fragrant golden rambling rose, allium and ornamental grasses. Beyond, two archways through a bamboo and buddlia screen lead to an orchard, with composter, plum, apple and cherry trees. Rhubarb, raspberries and blackcurrants surround the wooden greenhouse and a raised vegetable bed masks the night time home of my free range bantams (and organic fertilisers!) and little tool shedJacqui Broadbridge's garden plan
