Selina Botham, My Garden (KT10)

Styles: Child friendly, Contemporary, Suburban, Water, Wildlife

Soil types: Clay

Soil drainage: Moist but well-drained

Soil pH: Neutral

Light: Full Shade, Full Sun, Partial Shade

Aspect: North, West

Exposure: Sheltered

Based around a beautiful mature weeping willow tree, the garden is designed as a series of curves. A sandstone set path sweeps around the lawn and leads to the garden studio beyond. Planting consists of curves of evergreen box hedging contrasted with softer flowing ribbons of herbaceous planting. The large lawn provides a play space for the family and other wild play experiences are provided by a rope swing in the willow tree and a series of platforms within the hedging. Beyond and around the willow, wilder planting of carex gives a more unstructured area with a curved pond which is intersected by a generously sized deck. This provides a secondary seating area in the shade. The main dining and entertaining area is a terrace adjoining the house. Surrounded by soft planting of purples whites with splashes of yellow and orange this gives a relaxing space to sit and dine and relax

About me
Garden designer based in Surrey. Designing practical and beautiful gardens for people and wildlife. I am passionate about encouraging people of all ages to spend more time outside. Each garden represents a challenge to design a space which meets the needs of the people and maximises the potential of the space and will give them pleasure throughout the seasons. When you realise that something as simple as a view of a tree improves recovery from an operation how good for day to day health and well-being must a view of a beautiful garden be? All the gardens I work on are designed for all the seasons and every completed garden gets a free bulb planting plan so that spring can be a beautiful surprise.

I've recently designed a Wildlife Show Garden for Surrey Wildlife Trust for the BBC Breathing spaces Wild Day Out in Shalford Park - Guildford. A communal garden I designed for Raven Housing Trust is being entered for a New Homes Garden Award - Best Communal Garden and I hope to be exhibiting at Chelsea next year...

The gardening project I am currently working on
A design for a contemporary, formal, family garden in Ham inspired by the beautiful garden at Ham House. Curves and woodland planting in a shady family garden in Esher. A front garden in Claygate and a comprehensive planting design for a large contem
