Rebecca Disney-Scott, Beck's Garden (NG16)

Styles: Child friendly, Allotment or vegetable plot, English cottage

Soil types: Loamy

Soil drainage: Well-drained

Soil pH: Neutral

Light: Full Sun

Exposure: Sheltered

Long, thin garden (50x4m) behind Victorian Terrace. I bought the house 3 years ago from a man in his 70s; hence it taking me so long to demolish the ELEVEN sheds and unpruned shrubs. In 2004 I gave in and hired a garden company to just clear the entire garden (apart from a solitary lilac tree) and build the design I had sketched so many times. I am gradually planting the garden up and it is an ongoing project. The garden has four 'rooms'. Small daughter means gates and fences are a must! Decked area directly behind house, with pots, climbers and herb garden, leads onto Cottage Garden and lawn area (tricycle track), which then leads onto the adult area - gravel, slate stream and pergola over slate patio. This leads onto the raised vegetable beds and 'allotment area' (ie last remaining shed!)
