Belinda Macdonald, Shades of Green, Perthshire Farm Garden 1 (PH1)
Styles: Rural
Soil types: Clay
Soil drainage: Boggy damp conditions, Moisture-retentive
Soil pH: Neutral
Light: Full Sun
Aspect: South, East, West
Exposure: Exposed
Hardiness: Hardy (H4)
The renovated farmhouse sits in 2 acres of land but phase 1 design works only includes the (rabbit-fenced) front garden and a raised border adjacent to the parking area. The site is high, cold and windy, with heavy clay soil and little protection from the winter winds - but the views are fantastic. The client requested a simple, fairly low maintenance garden, with planting to provide some wind shelter, summer colour and winter interest from the house. A traditional, informal planting style is preferred, to fit in with the open, rural setting. All the plants chosen are extremely hardy and were grown in Scotland.Belinda Macdonald, Shades of Green's garden plan

About me
I am a professional garden designer, running Shades of Green Garden Design based in Dollar, Clackmannanshire. I help clients to create the ideal garden for their lifestyle, location & budget. I often work alongside my clients in the new garden during the planting phase, chatting with them about why the plants have been selected and what needs to be done to encourage healthy, vigorous growth over the ensuing seasons.Every garden that I design is different, as each one reflects the aspirations, preferences and needs of the client. As result, my working life is one of constant stimulation and challenge, as I seek the best solutions to the problems posed by each garden I am involved with. It's a very satisfying way to spend one's days! Some of my clients' gardens are listed in the Members Gardens section - search for Belinda Macdonald.
