Can I grow Akebia quinata from seed?

General post from Julia Warnes

Hi
I have a fence that I wish to cover with Akebia quinata. The issue I have is that the trench in front that it will go in is only 6 inches wide. The good thing is that it is 4 foot deep and 6 foot long.
I have been looking for plants but all the ones I have seen are too wide to fit in the trench. As I can't find a number of small plants I thought about getting some seeds and growing my own. If you think this is doable, could I have some advice on growing them and when to plant them out?
Many thanks

Growing Akebia in containers

Question from CD

Does anyone have experience or tips about growing an Akebia in a container?
I know it dislikes root disturbance and I don't want to have to dig it up when building work starts outside the house over the next 2 years. I'm hoping that a reasonably large pot would also help to keep it at a more manageable size for the small garden and keep the roots in check as many people have talked about it taking over and shoots popping up quite far from the base.
