Cultivation: Grows best in alkaline, sandy soil in a sunny spot. Sandy soil is needed for long, prize winning roots. Dig bed over in autumn, add peat or well-rotted manure if humus content is low. Apply lime to acid soil. Apply fertilzer 2-3 weeks before sowing.
