Dicentra spectabilis disappearing ...

Question from Dockyrph

I've read that once flowered, the foliage will die back over the summer - I'm in a sheltered London garden, is this still likely? anybody in my area with experience of growth rate on clay and if it does 'disappear' over the hot summer months?
