Cultivation: Plant in fertile and moist, but well-drained, soil. Shelter from any cold or drying winds. Grows best in slightly acid or neutral soils, but also will grow in alkaline soils if enriched. Avoid shallow, chalky soils as these cause leaves to yellow.

Hosta fortunei var. aureomarginata (Gold-edged plantain lily) has been used in The HESCO Garden by Leeds City Council for Chelsea Flower Show 2009.
