This plant is used in the Perfume garden by Laurie Chetwood and Patrick Collins in their Perfume garden for Chelsea Flower Show 2009. They say 'Orris is obtained from the dried rhizomes which are steam-distilled to obtain orris oil - one of most important perfumery materials. It has been used in perfumes since Greek and Roman times and has a violet-like fragrance.'
