Species: S. torminalis - S. torminalis is a medium-sized deciduous tree with maple-like leaves which turn from green to yellow, orange and purple-red in autumn and rounded heads of small white flowers in summer followed by clusters of speckled brown fruit which ripens in autumn.

The bark is cracked into squares like hawthorn. Berry-eating birds may eat the brown fruits of this tree. Earlier, the flowers offer nectar to bees and are home to several species of weevil.
