What Shoot can do for you and your garden

Build your own 'My Garden' space online

With Shoot you can build your own personal online plant inventory and 'my garden' diary for your garden. Upload images of your garden and make personal notes. You can also store information on more than one garden - such as a front or back garden, a garden at another property, or even several micro-climates all in one garden.

You can also share your 'my garden' photos, garden design and plants lists with other members by publishing it in our members' gardens directory.

Create personal plant inventory lists, groups and notes

For each garden, you can create your own plant lists, planting notes, and garden plant groupings.

You can store lists of 'Plants I have' and 'Plants I want'. Keep written notes about each plant. Group these plant lists into groups applying any group name you like (such as 'plants around the apple tree' or 'plants in the front planter').

Personalised gardening care instructions

For each of the plants in your 'Plants I have' list, we will send you care tips every month by email. This information is personalised for you - you get information relating to your plants, with the level of knowledge you wish to receive.  So if you just want to know about pruning, we only send you pruning instructions.  If later you want to learn how to propagate (making more plants) just add 'propagate' to your personal list and we will then tell you what to do.

We also provide advice online advice on how to care for these plants, and how to tackle many of the issues you face with them, such as pests and diseases.

Plant finder and plant identifier

Shoot has a 9,000+ database of plants, to choose from. This is being added to each month. As a registered member, you can also submit a plant request if you cannot find your plant, and we will add it for you.

If you add a plant to one of your 'my garden' plant lists we will help you decide if it suits that garden's growing conditions with our plant check. This can help avoid disappointment and wasted money, as most plants that fail are planted in an environment and/or condition unsuited to their needs.

Get gardening inspiration and ideas

Shoot also provides a listing of garden designers who can provide expert advice. 

These designers have also contributed articles, features and photos of the gardens they have designed to Shoot to give you great gardening ideas and inspiration for your own garden. 

In addition to designer gardens, Shoot also allows members to publish a webpage on their garden to share planting ideas and garden notes with other members and visitors.  You can search for other members' 'my gardens' by location, post code or style.

Plan out your 'my garden' with our garden design software

We have also just launched a new 2D garden layout planning tool.

With this unique online garden design software tool, you can design your garden layout, add plants from your planting lists, as well as other design features such as pathways, ponds, garden buildings, garden lighting and much more. Play an online demo of this new tool.

Finally, when you sell your property, your Shoot 'My garden' will become a valuable record that the new owners can benefit from.  They will know what is planted where, how to care for the plants in their new garden and can benefit from any notes you have added. Simply send them a copy your garden diary by email.
