All The Worlds A Stage Garden

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death in 1616. Hampton Court Palace and Shakespeare share a rich history together so where better to celebrate Shakespeare’s talent as a literary artist than Hampton Court Palace Flower Show?

This garden transforms Shakespeare’s ‘Seven Ages of Man’ into a garden to be experienced by all.

Visitors are invited into the garden to embark on a journey through the ages. Each Age is represented by a water basin which mirrors the transition in planting from vibrant greens and pure whites representing youth, to barren golds and deep purples representing the maturity of age. Gaze into the basins and re ect upon your own life journey. Enjoy the calming atmosphere under the shade of tree glades and be reminded of the connection between Shakespeare and Hampton Court Palace.

The garden concept is strongly linked with both the temporal context, as 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, and the spatial context as Shakespeare and Hampton Court Palace share a rich history together.

A social approach is inherent to this garden. Visitors are invited to play a role in the garden. Journey through the ages or bask in the warmth of the garden.The garden is host to exciting live performances, unifying literary art, dramatics and garden design in this INNOVATIVE and creative space. The water basins represent the ‘seven ages of man’. The planting is driven by a theoretical approach where white represents purity of infancy which transitions to dark colours along the journey towards maturity of age.

The Lunaria Landscapes team is an international design collaboration comprised of four designers; Cho hee Song (Korean), Dawn Parke (Irish), Jasper Kaessmann (German), and Manuel Wehrle (German).
