By Henley on Thames Garden Designer Jo Alderson Phillips. This is Jo's own garden in Henley on Thames.
It was a very dreary dull space that desperately needed some inspiration. Jo wanted a real garden 'room' to extend the kitchen and be enjoyed twelve months of the year, day and night. Jo used travertine flags throughout for unity, painted the walls and raised beds white to tie in with the kitchen. The colours are restricted to purple, magenta, white and of course green.
The grasses give a beautiful texture and the standard wisterias create an elegant glamourous feel toward the rear of the garden. A wall of bamboos enclose the space and hide an ugly wall. A wall of mirrors visually extend the garden. The water is always interesting and the fish give plenty of interest - the pool is 1.2m deep and has a good filtration system with UV should be ever feel the need to have Koi. It is a pleasure to sit in, is very easy to maintain & gives constant pleasure.
