Designed by Helen Elks-Smith MSGD. The garden now provides somewhere to sit in the sun for morning coffee, for lunch and to catch the last rays of summer.
There is a separate area for growing a few fresh vegetables and soft fruit to take to the table. The clients wanted a strong design to match the clean lines of the contemporary interior.
The design is softened with lush planting to provide a strong structure that looks good throughout the year. The garden is close to the coast but with a degree of protection from strong winds and far enough for the salt content to be less of a concern.
There is little by way of borrowed landscape and neighbouring houses rooflines are quite dominant.
The palms, cordylines and bamboos have been carefully positioned to break up these lines and create a green oasis in which to relax.
