By garden designer Diarmuid Gavin. In the Irish Sky Garden the desire is to enjoy a garden from unique heights.

The designer was inspired by Oscar winning Dublin animator Richie Baneham, who created the visual effects work in Avatar and also by the concept of the Restaurant in the Sky where people dine sitting around a table hanging from the arm of a crane.

Diarmuid also found inspiration in the colourful artistic interpretations of Cork's Midsummer Festival of the Senses and by the landscapes of Capability Brown.

On the ground it is green and full of water, with 25 pools, either flowing or reflecting the craft above.

Planting travels in waves across the garden – full of grasses and pine with occasional islands of clipped yew and box. Beautiful specimens of photinias, bamboos and trees are used in part to lessen the impact of the crane that helps us fly.
