The ‘Let’s Go Fly A Kite!’ garden is designed to embody the transformative effect that engaging with outdoor activity can have on children with disabilities.  Central to the design are three sets of gabions of different sizes and containing a variety of symbolic elements: the largest are filled with rubble to represent obstacles; the middle set have mechanical equipment signifying new possibilities; the third set include plants symbolising hope and freedom.  Natural stone paving incorporates the Children Today kite motif while, from above, the image of a child enjoying the use of specialist equipment is revealed.

Further symbolism is captured in the colourful and varied planting scheme which is anchored by the yellow and blue of the Children Today brand.

Particular species are included which represent the characteristics and emotions associated with the journey taken by children who have benefitted from Children Today’s work (see plant list below).

Children Today is a Cheshire-based charity which raises funds for specialist equipment which assists children and young people with disabilities to engage with the outdoors. The charity’s objective is to provide professional and caring support, and potentially life-changing opportunities, which allows children and young people with disabilities to experience happiness, gain independence and look to the future with optimism.
