Shoot member Phil Murray takes advantage of extra time during the lockdown to give his WIndermere garden a haircut, and gets 10 builders bags of chippings in the process!
"Through the winter we have been working reasonably hard to give our Windermere garden a thorough haircut so we are ready for vigorous and decorous growth this spring and summer. This has resulted in two to three builders' bags a month of cuttings taken to the tip, with the accompanying nervousness that any minute the tip manager was going to challenge whether we were indeed a domestic user!
Since the lockdown, our pace of clearance has increased, and in the last two weeks we must have produced 10 builders' bags full! But the tip is closed. What to do?
Fortunately we had invested last year in a Bosch electric shredder and we have been able to reduce it all to compostable chippings. We now have four lovely compost bins rotting away to give us some lovely mulch in the future.
Shoot has been a great help identifying the plants in this garden we acquired two years ago and gradually migrating to an intelligent annual care programme."
