Designed by Diarmuid Gavin. The concept for this garden is a communal outdoor courtyard space for the residents of a block of flats. The garden is to be viewed from above as well as walked through.
The aim is to encourage neighbours to leave their homes and use this contemporary outdoor space for work, play and relaxation. They can if they wish, get involved, using one of the allotments to grow fruit, vegetables, flowers or anything that takes thier fancy.
In this first close-up you can see box
(Buxus
sempervirens) in the forefront with lavender (e.g.
Lavandula
stoechas subsp. pedunculata) to the right of it. In front
of the curved outline of the concrete pod, you can see the soft
light pink of Achillea
'Lachsschönheit', mixed with a darker purple of the
Verbena
bonariensis, and a shot of red from poppies
(e.g. Papaver alpinum L.)
In the second close-up you can see some of the same planting again, this time with a bit of the darker blue from cornflowers (Centaurea cyanus).
