Which plants are best for wet clay soils?

Gardening on wet clay soil can be a challenge, due to the very high moisture content. It is best to select plants that like this condition, rather than trying too hard to change what you already have. It can be a good idea, however, to minimise waterlogging, by improving the drainage and cultivate to add air. Add large quantities of sharp grit and well-rotted fibrous compost. Also, avoid walking or standing on the soil when it is wet which will compact it again.
