i had a similar problem with mine. i wasn't loosing leaves but it just wasn't getting any bigger so i planted it in the garden hoping with more space it might start to grow but it isn't. it has grown a little bit more but now seems to have stopped dead. all my other plants are thriving and doing well but my hollyhock seems to be going nowhere fast
does anyone have any ideas

It wants to be huge. Try putting it in a much bigger pot, or in the ground and see what happens.

I have a very small alcea which I have been trying to grow in a small pot (3"d). It only ever has 3 leaves, approx 3" high. Every few weeks one leaf goes mottled, and this increases until the leaf curls up, and dies off. Another leaf come up from below but this keeps recurring and the plant is not establishing itself. Is it rust? Is it something else? What do I do?

We bought and planted 5 Hollyhocks last year, they grew and flowered to an enormous size. This year only 2 are showing any signs of foliage at the moment. Have they done all they will or will we get a repeat of last years blooms. If they have now done all they will do, should I have taken cuttings or seeds from them to grow for this year or do I just have to buy new ones each year?
