A long-established non-native, it now occurs widely on tracksides, field margins, walls and sandy banks, and occasionally calcareous grassland. It can be invasive. Grow it with purple sage, intermediate lady's-mantle, yellow loosestrife, lamb's ears and lavender for an attractive display of foliage in a dry, sunny border.
