Without actually being able to see the damage for myself, it is difficult to assess exactly what is going on here.

However, from your description the plant does sound to be in a rather sorry state. And I would of course recommend that you remove the damaged and soggy parts of the plant in an effort to stop whatever has caused this.

Is it possible that you could post up a photograph, getting as close to the point of damage as possible? In the meantime, make sure that your plant is well watered through this hot spell to help it recover from the shock of surgery!

Good luck

Japanese aralia 'Variegata' (Fatsia japonica 'Variegata')

Question from rebecca wingar

In forum: Fatsia japonica 'Variegata'

I planted a Japanese aralia 'Variegata' last year, it did well until a few months ago when I noticed that the stems were drooping a lot. When I looked at it the leaf stems and part of the main stem had turned brown and appeared to be rotten. I have cut them off. Does anyone know what this might be, and did I do the right thing by removing the 'rotten' parts?
