Leycesteria formosa. A very fine flowering shrub. I hope you have kept them. Seedlings will flower from their second year.

Leycesteria formosa (or pheasant berry). Some people like it. It can seed itself about a bit.

Hi Tim, thanks - yes a lot of our followers think the same:

"Could be Himalayan honeysuckle (Leycesteria Formosa)."
"Possibly Leycesteria Formosa. If so, a self-seeder, and not long-lived. Some forms are better than others. Leycesteria Formosa 'Purple Rain' is a good dark one."

And then one less sure:
"The leaf looks a little like a hydrangea too. But I’m no expert."

Hi Mike, a few people on our social media thinks this is Leycesteria formosa, the Himalayan honeysuckle.

Some more comments too:
"sometimes called pheasant berry - birds love those berries"
"There's a beautiful bright version with golden leaves too called Leycesteria Golden Lanterns"
"I call it Himalayan honeysuckle ... make a fab addition to home cut flowers just watch the berries don't get squdggy as they stain anything they touch....."
"Himalayan honeysuckle. Very attractive but it will get a lot bigger and seeds easily. Just cut it back hard, it's tough"
"And it is a common self-seeder. One has just turned up in my garden too!"
"Pheasantberry" "Birds devour the fruit"
"Same as above - easy to grow and maintain, great for birds and bees the berries stain though."

Hope that helps? Cheers, Nicola

Hi Leanne

It looks like it is leycesteria formosa (pheasant berry or Himalayan honeysuckle). I've not had any experience managing this shrub so suggest checking the care instructions on here & guidance elsewhere to control it.
