Given the fast rate of growth, the shape of the leaves and the diameter of the stems. It must be one of the mulberries. They don't fruit until they are a bit more mature. Possibly white mulberry.

thanks Martin for all your help, advice and the very useful Mulberry link - I did not realize there was so much one could do with Mulberries.
I shall put my sapling in a suitable container and see how it grows.
Meanwhile if any members are interested one of RHS plant offers this month is for...Mulberry!
