Having taken out a very large Acer Drumondii from my back garden I am now looking to plant a smaller tree (up to 15 ft) in its place to give a little shade in a bottom corner of the garden. I want something with not too big a canopy that will give dappled shade. Sorbus family has been suggested but I have seen some nice ones on line but not so nice ones at garden centre. Anyone got a Sorbus Aucuparia Sheerwater Seedling - looks like it has all that I want - and would they recommend it? Open to suggestions.

Its clusters of bright red berries are a favourite of birds, especially mistle thrushes and blackbirds. The berries can also be used to make jellies and to flavour apple-based preserves. This tree has a deep tap root system which enables the plant to withstand high winds.
