Hi Alice,

Did you pick a plant from our tweet response? Griselinia littorals, Hippophae rhamnoides, Ulex europaeus, Olearia x haastii, Tamarix ramosissima and Escallonia
I hope this helped, Tania from Shoot

Pieris japonica 'Katsura'

Message from Katy Elton

In forum: Pieris japonica 'Katsura'

Hi Sandra,

If unsure about a plant's requirements it is often useful to turn to its natural habitat for clues of its preferred growing conditions. This plant was discovered on a wooded hillside in Japan, which suggests it grows best with some shelter, and therefore might not be the best choice for your exposed, windy site. How about the following alternatives:

Arbutus unedo
Tamarix ramosissima 'Pink Cascade'
Viburnum tinus
Atriplex halimus

These are more suited to windy, exposed conditions, and still offer some attractive flowering interest.

Hope this helps!

Katy
