Re: proper name for wisteria variety

I can't comment on what is here in the shoot database, but I have Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls' and was under the impression is was a North American native - they are sold over here in the UK as an alternative as they flower on younger plants. They are also a bit more compact and suited to growing in a container.
I hope this helps put your mind at rest.

proper name for wisteria variety

Question from Maureen Hulbert

In forum: Wisteria frutescens

I planted what I thought was a North American native wisteria, Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls'. I bought it from a reputable local native plant nursery here in Toronto, Canada. But your plant database calls "Amethyst Falls" a Chinese Wisteria - wisteria sinensis. How can i tell if I have a w. frutescens or a w. sinensis? I live adjacent to a natural area and I wanted a native plant.
