Heuchera "uprooting" themselves

Question from David Humphreys

Hi :)

Last year I planted a heuchera and during the winter, I noticed had gone a bit limp, but just thought that was what it did during colder times.

I have just taken a closer look at it today and it appears to have become uprooted. After consulting my mother, she told me that same kind of thing has happened to her heucheras in the past.

Is this something that they do? Or is it just peculiar that the same thing has happened? Is there a trick to stop them doing this?

Thanks in advance!

Can I prune hardy perennials when there is a hard frost? Is there a recommended low temperature at which to stand off pruning?

Rose Pruning

Question from Jill Chambers

This summer my hybrid tea roses lost most of their leaves and I've had to remove others because of black spot. The weather has been very hot and they are beginning to recover with the fall in temperature. Any idea why their leaves fall and whether I can prevent it?

Seed storage over winter

Question from Janice Joy

I need to store several types of seeds till the next growing season. In the past I have used envelopes, jars, and zip lock bags. Typically our basement gets wet at some point causing the seeds to get fungus, rot or even be eated by rodents. This year I was thinking to use cleaned out pill bottles and put silica packet in, Would that be good or harmful. Silica packets are used to keep things dry - but would it dry the life out of the seeds?
