I am thinking of planting Corylus avellana in soil that has a pH of 6.5.Do you think it will thrive?

Hi, Victoria,
No, I don't think it will thrive. They really only want to be in alkaline to neutral soil. 6.5 isn't too acidic, but it won't be as happy as it should.

I live in an area with sandy soil, where Rhododendrons grow like mad. Hazel seems to do just as well here as it does on the chalk land I garden.
