dying geraniums and chrysenthumums

Reply from David Sewell

Hello Faeza,
Well this one is a bit out of my remit but I'll try to make a couple of suggestions. Chrysanths suffer from a variety of pathogens but first and foremost of you had a winter anything like the one we had here in the Cotswolds and your greenhouse wasn't heated I suspect some have just succumbed to the freezing temperatures.
The grey mould sounds like botrytis which is a common fungus and quite hard to get rid of. Good hygiene is the first line of attack. Make sure you have decent ventilation (but don't leave the vents open at night yet!) and cut away dead and dying stems and burn or bin the debris. Fungicides aren't that helpful but you could try one . Drop into your local garden centre and ask for some advice as to which one.
Hope this helps.
All best,
David
