I have recently moved house and there is a very well established clematis Montana, it has flowered, but we are not sure as to whether we can cut this back or not at this time of year..can anyone help pleas.

You usually cut back the spring blooming ones soon after they finish blooming, so spring would be the time, also do not cut this one too deep, I'd keep it 6 ft. off the ground, they just don't like being cut that far back unlike the Jackmanii or villa de Lyon.
