Friend wants me to put wood chip in between young trees growing out of border. Will the trees suffer if I layer the beds with sheeting first to prevent weeds growing thru? Thanks ....

No it’s not detrimental to the trees however I would recommend putting some holes in the sheeting for drainage. It use to be recommended that composted bark should always be used as the freshly chipped bark absorbs nitrogen from the top layer of the soil as it decomposes. However in this scenario for weed suppressant it would be an advantage.
