I know this will probably make me sound very dim but could someone clarify for me what is meant by aspect. eg if it says aspect south does that mean the plant is facing south?

It usually means that the ground is facing south - a south-facing slope, or a border with a wall or fence behind it that is on the northern boundary of the plot - so it catches most light when the sun is due south. Or the wall or fence with a south-facing face.... Does that help?
