I have had a severe attck of gooseberry sawfly. short of digging my bush out is there anyway I can ensure it won't happen again? Any advice will be appreciated , thank you.

You need to prune your bush to maximise air flow through it. Pick larvae off by hand from mid-April onwards. Use a pathogenic nematode, sold as Nemasys Grow Your Own. Or use a pesticide suitable for gooseberries
