I would be more worried about frosts damaging the roots than the aphids, which can easily be sprayed or washed off. Aphids attack garden plants as well as pot plants. Keep your Acer well fed and it will more than likely cope with the aphids. Crickets and grasshoppers damaged my Acer more than anything.
