Beautiful Aromatic white flowering bush

I have a bush in my garden that used to flower every year I don't know why but after last year it stopped regrowing it's leaves and now I believe is dead, I would love to know what it was the was so beautiful and a heavy scent, here are some pictures could I have some help identifying it please.. :-)

Perhaps a philadelphus 'Belle Etoile'. Have a look at photos online & see what you think.
