Hi Donal, Do you have a close up of the flower and leaf and any further back to show us the plants shape? If yes, then just post a reply to yourself that way we can see all the images in the same 'topic' stream.
Thanks Nicola

Sweet Rocket?

Reply from Fi

Hi Donal, I wonder if it's Hesperis (Sweet Rocket) - does it have a wonderful scent?
Mine is in flower just now, lovely next to the bench.

Hi Nicola, Fi

I've added a close up. My wife says it's a perennial, has been multiplying for a while, has no scent and is at the moment about a metre tall.

Mystery indeed!

The flower looks like Hesperis to me too but the growth habit and leaves aren't right. My next guess would be (white) Honesty although once again the leaves are not right. So could it be one of the perennial Wallflowers? That said, I've never seen a white form and Wallflowers are scented. I give up!

Thank you everybody who replied. Yes it is Hesperis - sweet rocket. We didn't realise it scented only in the evening but we just checked and it is very sweet indeed!.

I'm going to gather the seeds and put it about!
Enjoy, maybe with a small glass of wine in the evening.
