The 1st one is Nandina domestica, lots of different varieties, the 2nd looks like Berberis aurea, when was the picture taken? it is deciduous if it was taken in summer then that is it.

Re name of two shrubs

Thank you Elaine
Both taken today as I'm trying to turn my daughters wasteland of 30 years into an easy maintenance garden. She's a Dr and I've found out very recently that I really do enjoy gardening rather than just producing a pretty good lawn.

I thought the second was a berberis aurea but still too new to be sure. The first I've seen but never knew its name. I'm trying to salvage what I can and have uncovered a number of 'odd' plants including a thriving fatsia japonica, these are the best and justify the graft needed to remove 5ft high nettles in order to lay a lawn
So thank you for your help.

Hi Jeremy, another vote on our social media is "2nd one could be Lonicera nitida 'Baggesen's Gold'" I hope that helps? Thanks Nicola

Thank you Nicola, I've seen the plant before in my last house but it was a darker green and used as hedge running down my drive. I'll recheck it when the current downpour has moderated, Manchester weather, just love it!

If you see any reversion on any variegated plant, you might trace the branch and get rid of it, otherwise it will take over and revert to being the green form.

thank you Elaine, it catches the sun most of the day so I'm not sure how variegated it actually is.
