I bought is perennial plant a few years ago but have mislaid its description. It's quite hard having survived this winter. It's about 12" tall and purple flowers. It self seeds as I notice a small new plant in the soil near to it.

Can it be Iberis amara or the annual candy tuft, they come back year after year from seeds.

thank you Elaine, your reply gave me enough information to search further. I think it is probably an Iberis and maybe an Iberis umbellata.
