I came across these friendly guys whilst walking on cliffs near Lyme Regis. I was just wondering if anyone knew what they were?

Yes they look like the sporulating heads of horsetails. Followed later in the year by the more familiar plants.

Most definitely marestail/horsetail. Its a real nightmare and there is lots around Lyme Regis.
