I have been given two of these plants one has some new growth at the top, the other has none, can I cut these back and if so so will they come back next season.

Hi, William,
If you want to rejuvenate your Mahonias, do it now before things get warm up in summer. Cut back low, just above an outward-facing bud. Unfortunately, you won't get flower buds for a few years but once you do, they will be on a lovely, bushy shrub. After that, prune lightly after flowering. Are you a subscriber? If so, add this to your 'Plants I Have' list and then you will always be reminded of when to prune.
All the best and let me know how your shrubs fair after pruning.

Hi Kathy,
Many Thanks, I will certainly look at doing that.
